New findings of the Laboratory have been published in the journal "Hydraulic Engineering": P.N. Zvyagin. The design of ice-resistant structures including piers, terminals, lighthouses, bridges, is usually associated with their model testing in an ice tank. Until now, the main measured characteristics in such experiments have included the values of the global load on a structure model exerted by the fixed field of model ice when towing the structure model across this field.

The article presents methods for measuring local ice pressures in model experiments using Tekscan® equipment used by the Laboratory of Ice Engineering Research Fundamentals (SPbPU). The technology is illustrated by an example of measured ice pressures on a vertical wall. The proprietary software is used to analyze the loaded areas.
